Deborah Burton
Casting Director
“We look for the magical spark in a person
that could grow to become a Blue Man. The way we train the character
is from the inside out. That special something inside a person,
as hard as it is to describe; we identify and develop upon that.”

Born
in the south of England and raised in north central New Jersey,
Deb (as she’s know to one and all) went to Hartford Art School.
She moved to Manhattan in 1990 where her first big city gig was
painting designs on tee shirts for a children’s clothing company.
While working on getting in the door of the art world as a ceramicist,
she was hired by Blue Man Group and began her tenure working at
the Astor Place Theatre running wardrobe and props. Deb was hired
into the casting department a year later by Blue Man Group’s
original in-house Casting Director, Carrie Hanson. “I developed
my relationship with the Blue Man character from the ground up,”
she says, “because I worked at the theatre and lived with
the character - watched and participated in six shows a week for
a year.” Deb has a keen sense of what it takes to be a Blue
Man, having spent much of past ten years traveling the country and
the world to look for them at casting sessions.

Katie Naka
Casting/Training Coordinator
“Give me your drummers, your 6-ish foot tall, your artistic masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse that might not belong in mainstream entertainment. Send these, the tricksters, potentially-blue to me, I lift my lamp besides the golden door!”
